I feel old, and it’s the Wii U’s fault.

When word first hit the information super-highway, fans were in a tizzy about the new Wii U controller.  So naturally, I was excited too. Why? Because everyone else was! Sure my thrill was unsubstantiated, but hey – it’s Nintendo! Nintendo, the undisputed king of innovation, had shat yet another technological pearl to adorn the tedious landscape that is the gaming industry…I mean, what’s not to be excited about? Admittedly, I had no idea what the device actually was or what it did, and after reading a few articles I’m still not sure.

Two thumbsticks, 1080p touchscreen and motion control...SWEET! Too bad you can't play games on it.

Granted, if Nintendo had released the nunchuk prior to the Wii I would have had the same dubious reaction, but I’m sure Nintendo is quite capable of running their company without my input so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the fuss is about. The second screen and motion control aspect of the device definitely holds promise, but I’m going into this with cautious optimism. I just hope the Wii U itself is half as good as what we’ll be controlling it with.
