Mass Effect is one of the crowning achievements in gaming…and I don’t say this lightly.  Combining fast-paced action with an epic story and morally complex choices, it’s definitely one to check out.  There’s a lot that is familiar about the universe of Mass Effect, but at the same time it doesn’t fall into the same clichés that so many movies and other games do.  So often we find ourselves shooting things in the face al la Gears of War without really knowing why.  That’s not a slight against the illustrious and well praised shooter…simply an observation.  Where Gears might be the pinnacle of game mechanics and solid controls, Mass Effect 2 easily surpasses Gears and then decides to add a totally dimension…story.  And I’m not just talking about kill some aliens get some guns and save the galaxy, (yes – you must in do all those things), but where other games might simply drop this impossible task upon your generic militaristic bad-ass character on a moments notice; Mass Effect 2 presents you with the same plight but throws in a cast of colorful yet deep characters.  They have back stories, feelings, and motives of their own.  Rounding out your dirty dozen are a whole cast scoundrels, cutthroats, morally ambiguous scientists, and killers…AND THOSE ARE YOUR FRIENDS!  Not a group you’d want to take to a bake sale, but pretty good in a fire-fight.  This game is definitely Token certified…do yourself a favor and check this one out.

Black Token out.
